Family Vacation Dreams

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

We were supposed to have dinner this past weekend with a dear friend of my husband and his family. We were actually looking forward to it until they called to cancel. Turns out they had another one of their orlando vacations, (they’ve had 15) and were taking their two kids to Disney World. Now I’m sorry—I’ve never even been to Florida…and they are going AGAIN! What’s wrong with this picture?

I’m hoping prices come down a bit, because my dream would be to wrap up airline tickets and Disney tickets and let the kids open them up for Christmas. I think they would be thrilled! We lived in Arizona with two of our kids—and we never even made it to Disneyland. Hey, our oldest has been to Sea World—but he was only 6 months old!

Silly Parents

Did I tell you that my parents were looking at homes to buy in Arizona. The market is perfect there for a second home–and honestly—it almost seems like stealing! They were looking at both manufactured homes and PUD’s. They normally pull their 5th wheel to Yuma in the winter months–so this would have just been an investment property for the future.

My uncle and his family live in Gilbert and I have an aunt and a cousin in Queens Creek. We used to live in Peoria but have since moved to Chicago. How fun it would be to visit them all in Arizona and to have a neat place to stay to do it! But you know what killed the deal? Turns out, my manly man of dad is just a wee bit afraid of scorpions. The family members in Queens Creek have found as many as 10 a week inside their homes. I lived in Arizona for 4 years and the only scorpion I ever saw………was in a Dixie cup at the zoo!

Friends

Do you know someone struggling with cancer? I have a dear friend who found a lump just a month before giving birth to her first child. Because of her pregnancy they wanted to wait to start her cancer treatment & prescriptions, but also really wanted to get a jump on it since she caught it relatively early. They gave the baby the steroid treatments to help her lungs–and they brought her 3 weeks early. She started her treatments 2 days after giving birth.

Can you even imagine? Last week there was a 10K cancer walk in downtown Chicago—we had to be there at 5:30 am—but let me tell you—-what an amazing experience it was!! The amazing feeling of support just emulated through the mass of people there to walk for friends and loved ones. It was an honor!

Looking To Buy

We are looking at moving. I know, AGAIN??? Yeah, I’m with ya! But really—it’s a great time for us to move and upgrade since many homes are worth much more than their price. Since we are looking at renting our current home–we’ve been looking into a couple of things that we can improve to really make the place spiffy. Definitely new carpet, a fresh coat of paint, some new Naples Fl custom doors, well—maybe we’ll put those on the new house—just some quick and easy things to give add that little touch of curb appeal.

The one thing that I’ve always wanted to do–but never had the money. I would extend our front porch–to give it a touch of a veranda look and then plant box hedges to hide the ’secret’ path up to the house. We won’t do it now—but boy, it would’ve looked great!
